White mustard

  • Officially tested by PPO Wageningen UR
  • Fast ground coverage
  • Very late flowering
  • Prevents development of beet nematode (reduction 70-90%)

White mustard can be sown very late in the autumn. It grows very quickly providing good ground cover, making it an excellent green manuring crop. Mustard is unpalatable to stock and is very susceptible to frost. White mustard is very important to increase or to maintain the organic substance in the soil. White mustard can control nematodes. The roots attract nematodes by aromatic substance. In case of nematode resistant varieties nematodes can't multiply and will die. The excretion of the aromatic substance ends at the time of flowering. Modern varieties will have a very high nematode resistance (BCA-resistance).
