Barsilo is a proven diploid hybrid ryegrass from Barenbrug’s Dutch breeding program. This variety is an intermediate type, which means a better drought tolerance and persistency than the usual Italian types. Barsilo can be used in mixtures for high silage production up to 3 years in areas with relative mild winters.

Lolium x hybridum

Varieties of hybrid ryegrass are obtained by crossing perennial and Italian ryegrass. Three types can be distinguished: Italian types have an erect growth habit and give good spring growth, whereas perennial types form a denser sward and have later spring growth. Also intermediate types exist.
