Barenbrug’s breeding programmes contain Lucerne (alfalfa), vetch and clover species. Large Lucerne programmes are running in Northern France (Flemish types), Southern France (Mediterranean types), Romania (continental types) and in Australia (non-dormant types). This enables Barenbrug to offer adapted varieties for a wide range of climatic areas. The Lucerne breeding programme is focusing on forage quality for the farmers as well as for the drying industry (dehydration industry). Key elements are protein content, disease resistance, nematode resistance, dry matter yield and persistency.
