The Heritage Seeds newsletter for 2015!

Welcome to the Autumn & first edition of the Heritage Seeds newsletter for 2015!

The aim of this newsletter is to bring you, our customers, relevant and up-to-date information on current market trends, production (tropical & temperate), supply, and products.

Much of the Northern parts of Australia have experienced a wild start to 2015, with four cyclones having crossed the coast so far this year. While most of the rain from these cyclone events only made it about 150km inland from the East Coast, and across the top of the Northern Territory and Western Australia, it did provide relief for farmers and graziers lucky enough to be under it, while many of the inland areas remain desperate for rain. With time running out for production for some of our tropical species, if rain is not forthcoming, stocks of some species could be in limited supply later in the selling season. This will be covered in Roger's Production Update.

I was lucky enough to visit the Alfalfa production areas in the South East of South Australia last week, where the Alfalfa seed harvest is well under way. At this stage, yields are average to slightly lower than average, however the real unknown is the extent of the Lucerne Wasp damage, and the effect this will have on grading clean outs. Again, this will be covered in more detail in Nathan's Alfalfa Market Update.

We would strongly encourage you to let us know of your alfalfa seed requirements for the coming season, as availability is going to be very tight, and we anticipate the market will only get stronger as the demand for non dormancy alfalfa seed, particularly from the Middle East, is already evident in the market.

Queensland will once again be hosting Australia's National Beef Exposition, Beef Australia 2015 (held once every 3 years), at Rockhampton from 04 - 09 May. If you are planning to attend, please let me know, as Heritage Seeds will be available to meet with you during this well attended event. And finally, Heritage Seeds will have representatives attending the ISF Congress in Krakow in May, please let me know if you would like to organise a meeting.

And our thoughts are with our customers and friends in Vanuatu recently devastated by Cyclone Pam. We wish them all the best while they deal with rebuilding their homes & livelihoods.

I hope you enjoy reading our newsletter, and would welcome your feedback.

All the best for the selling season ahead.
