Viktorka is by far the best variety for use in mixtures for golf greens and ornamental purposes. The variety has a perfect shoot density and a close mowing tolerance down to 5 mm (4 mm in summer!). This makes Viktorka the best choice for the overseeding of tees, fairways and greens! The variety has excellent red thread resistance and maintains a healthy colour, even if nitrogen applications are decreased. Moreover, Viktorka shows a nice green colour all year round!

Application
Viktorka is a Festuca rubra trichophylla suitable for:

  • Sport
    • golf courses: tees, greens and fairways
    • cricket and tennis courts
  • Surrounds / aprons
  • Bowling greens
  • Turf production

Colour
Medium-light coloured variety.

Partner varieties in mixtures
Viktorka has been extensively tested in private trials at STRI UK, Bioforsk in Norway and Hohenheim University in Germany and during several small trials in other countries like Czech Republic. All trials showed the signifi cant ornamental value of Viktorka and its great performance on golf greens, home lawns and landscaping areas.
Best combinations were found with Festuca rubra spps. such as Barcrown, Bargreen II and Barswing. Other combinations are with Agrostis capillaris Barking and Heriot for greens or with dwarf perennial rye grasses as Bargold, Barlady and Barsignum for fairways, tees or lawns.

Slender creeping red fescue is a high ornamental specie as well. It is as fine and dense as chewings fescue, but it outperforms chewing fescue due to an excellent disease resistance. Slender creeping fescues also exhibit good summer and autumn colour and it has better salt tolerance than chewings fescue.

Also here, mowing levels below 5 mm in summer are possible, but only if you use the genetics from Barenbrug. Slender creeping red fescue does not require high inputs of water, nitrogen and pesticides and they are more tolerant to salt than chewings fescues. This specie does produce thatch.
